New Executive Director Joins The International Center in New York
New York, NY, August 11, 2010 – The International Center in New York (ICNY) has named Doreen Rizopoulos as Executive Director. Ms. Rizopoulos brings over twenty years of experience in workforce and program development to ICNY. As Executive Director, Ms. Rizopoulos looks to continue building upon the Center’s philosophy of collaborative education, where newcomers and volunteers work together to learn.
Prior to joining ICNY, Ms. Rizopoulos founded Rizopoulos Associates, an executive search practice focusing on the financial services industry. She was a co-founder and managing partner of Magdalin Rizopoulos, Inc., also a financial services industry executive search firm. Ms. Rizopoulos previously served as a Vice President, Information Technology at Lehman Brothers. There, she managed the global campus recruiting and training programs and the high school and college internship programs for Technology and US Operations.
Ms. Rizopoulos brings her international recruiting experience to ICNY with the intent of creating new membership outreach initiatives through social media marketing and hands-on recruiting at universities. Ms. Rizopoulos looks to attract new support for the Center's established programs while maintaining their current funding base. According to Ms. Rizopoulos, "Non-profits are particularly affected in a distressed economy. I believe that the International Center's community environment, affordable membership, well-trained volunteer force, and dedicated staff have kept it thriving over the past two years, and indeed the past fifty. I intend to build upon this powerful foundation." Key initiatives will include the expansion of ICNY's Community Outreach, Immigrant Support, and foreign student programs.
Since its founding in 1961, the International Center has provided a supportive and welcoming community in which newcomers to the United States overcome cultural and linguistic barriers by gaining strong English-language skills and knowledge of American culture. With a small full-time staff and a corps of 1,000 trained volunteers, the International Center annually serves more than 2,000 immigrants, refugees, students, and visitors from 95 countries. To learn more about the International Center, or to join our community as a member or volunteer, please visit us online at www.intlcenter.org or in person at 50 West 23rd Street, 7th floor in New York City.
